BACKGROUND: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/AshePERSONALITY: As ruthless as the business world is, it's no surprise that the daughter of two wealthy business consultants turned out to be an incredibly competent gang leader. Her business savvy background has been turned into one of Ashe's greatest strengths, as she's been able to apply her knowledge of business operations toward growing her own little criminal empire. Shrewd and calculating, Ashe is a born leader who doesn't shy away from taking command of a situation and
screaming issuing orders. Most of her attacks rely on precision and quick thinking, critical timing, creative maneuvers, and hitting where it hurts before they ever see it coming. She's smart as a whip, but unfortunately, she uses that intelligence for selfish gain.
An only child, Ashe has always been somewhat of a loner. She manages social interactions with brute force rather than finesse, and while she's skilled as a negotiator, her softer side is more akin to sandpaper. It's not that it isn't
there (because it is), it's just buried deep. Disagreements usually turn into fistfights. She loses her temper easily, especially when she doesn't get what she wants. It's really not that surprising, since the only person she really had to talk to for most of her life was an Omnic butler who couldn't talk back. While it may seem that Ashe prefers to keep people at arm's length, that's due more to how she was used to being treated rather than personal desire.
While Ashe's goals are largely selfishly motivated, she adheres to a strict code of rules and guidelines that she expects every member of her gang to follow (with equally strict punishments for those who fail to obey). If she gives her word, she won't go back on it and fully expects others to do the same. She also won't betray another's trust. If there's no gain to be had from a crime, there's no point committing said crime, so she isn't cruel for the sake of cruelty. She's brutal, but she is fair, and once a wrong has been righted she isn't likely to hold a grudge. Eye for an eye and all that jazz. If that wrong remains wrong? She'll carry that grudge for
years, as McCree is likely to attest considering she's still sore about his joining Overwatch and leaving
her the Deadlock Gang behind.
Ashe can be
extremely petty even to the point of being childish. McCree offers to let her walk away with a train's entire cargo save for one single crate. Despite the ease and high profit margin of accepting such a deal, the bad blood they shared seemed too strong for her -- despite not knowing what the crate's contents were, she wanted it just because McCree did. She has difficulty taking responsibility for her own poor choices and failure, finding it far easier to blame her subordinates, B.O.B., or whoever else happened to be around that could have possibly in any minute way caused the inconvenience. She's used to getting what she wants and will fight tooth and nail to get it, but if she's denied, Ashe loses all of that cool confidence and screams, rants, and/or sulks. Combined with a volatile temper that manifests in shouting, shoving, or just plain knocking off someone's hat out of spite, these qualities often prove to be Ashe's undoing.
What Ashe longs for more than anything else, and appears to be her biggest motivating factor, is an extreme longing for attention which, thanks to her absent parents, she equivocates as love. She thrives on praise, seeing her name on wanted posters and news headlines, and being recognized for her talents and skills (even if the attention is negative, she craves it). Along those same lines, ignoring her is the most surefire way to really piss her off. Her heists obviously weren't motivated by greed (she's filthy rich already), nor does she seem to desire power over others (calling the gang a 'family' that she enjoys enabling and supporting to the point where she sticks with the unconscious members after the heist). She claims she became a desperado because she
could, and because she was
damn good at it. Truth is, however, she was lonely, and simply longed for the love of a family. The gang gave her that, and she relished it. Losing McCree was like losing her best friend, and she took it hard to the point of deep resentment. From her point of view, it feels like he either didn't trust her enough to come for him, or he just didn't care enough to come back when he was free.
There are two pictures of McCree that Ashe owns. One is fixed to a dartboard. The other is protectively situated in the dash of her motorcycle. Her feelings for him are dual in nature, both hating him and missing the way things used to be. They didn't date, and neither seemed to hold overly romantic feelings for one another, but she's nonetheless a little sentimental deep down. She often goes out of her way to remind him that he'd be nothing without her, that the only way out of the gang was death. Her actions are suspiciously possessive, and to her, maybe that
is a kind of love in and of itself. She never was able to fathom the basic components of a healthy relationship to the point where she behaves more like a jilted teenager when it comes to her former partner. If given the chance, she'll do whatever it takes to humiliate McCree and take him down a notch, whether it's slinging barbed remarks back and forth, slamming a fist into his jaw, or threatening to rip off his other arm. But she definitely pays attention to him, and that's saying a lot for her. The fact that she even knows he lost the first arm is a bit telling that she continues keeping tabs on him. Deep down, she still cares.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Ashe doesn't have any particularly supernatural abilities. She's a sharpshooter with great aim, excels at planning heists and thefts, and of course...there's B.O.B. (Big Omnic Butler). Ashe's rifle is a family heirloom, and it's practically a part of her with how well she's able to use it. Not only do her shots deal a lot of damage, she'll use the recoil to propel herself upward and jump to higher vantage points. B.O.B. has tough metal plating outfitted to his chassis, and Ashe upgraded him herself to carry arm cannons. She often stands back to back with him to provide herself better protection in combat. Ashe chucks dynamite, sometimes taking aim and blowing it up with a shot from her rifle to detonate the explosives in mid-air.
